Khoie Group announce first solar cell integrated factory in KIZAD Abu Dhabi

The project will attract over $1 billion in investment in various solar energy sectors over the next three years

Khoie Solar Industries KIZAD, a member of the Khoie Group Holdings, has announced its first integrated solar module, cell and panel production factory to be built in KIZAD ( Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi).

The photovoltaic (PV) cell factory is to be located in KIZAD industrial zone and will produce solar cells and solar panels for the growing solar energy markets of West Asia, North Africa as well as the United States and European markets.

The first phase of the factory will have 2000 MW (megawatts) of solar cell capacity and 800 MW of solar panel capacity, Turkey's Vincent Loh, head of Khoie Solar technology said at the Press meeting.

Khoie Solar is seeking to produce the Solar Cell and Solar Panels needed for the expansion of the industry in the UAE locally and also stipulate that local engineers should constitute 80 percent of employment in the project.

Khoie Solar PV Cell and PV module Factory and Research and Development Center in KIZAD will be up and running by the second half of 2025 and the factory is attracting $200 million in private sector contributions which is a testament to the secure environment that the UAE has developed for investments adding that Dubai and Abu Dhabi are ready for global competitiveness in the solar energy sector.

The UAE's private sector had attracted over $100 billion investment in the last 5 years, he said.

With the help of new solar energy investment, the UAE will reduce its energy dependence on carbon, a goal that is highly important for the country to reduce dependence on oil and increase exports while improving its carbon footprint.'

A few years ago, the installed capacity was around only 3 GW (gigawatts), while currently the UAE is close to reaching 6 GW after switching on the 2 GW Al Dhafra solar project in November 2023 up from only 133 MW in 2014’ said FT Khoie, CEO of Khoie Solar.

In March 2024, Khoie Group Holdings made the decision to build the first Solar Cell factory in the UAE at a cost of $150 million. The photovoltaic production equipment will come from China within 9 months following the signing of the construction tender agreement.

Mr. Khoie explained that clean energy and the increased deployment of renewable energy is part of the UAE's goals to diversify its renewable energy resources and reduce carbon footprint. He said that over the past few years, the use of clean energy sources and energy production from these sources, which increased from 20 percent to 32 percent, was insufficient for a country like the UAE.

‘It is important for the UAE to increase the number of solar energy projects, and more importantly, it is also important to build research and development centers so UAE citizens can avail of new energy technologies,' he added.
